How to Make a Mirrored Image in Illustrator

By Kirk Bennet

You can use Illustrator CS6, the vector graphics editor from Adobe Systems, to create complex graphics from scratch for your clients or company website. You can insert a wide variety of objects into your Illustrator CS6 projects, and you can apply various effects to them. For instance, if you place an image on the canvas, you can mirror it to get an interesting effect. To make a mirrored image in Illustrator CS6, you use the Reflect tool.

Launch Adobe Illustrator CS6 and open your existing project or create a new one.

Choose the "Selection Tool" from the toolbox at the right or press "V" to select it and then click on the resulting image.

Click "Object," select "Transform" and choose "Reflect" from the menu to open the Reflect window.

Select "Horizontal" or "Vertical" in the Axis section to reflect the image horizontally or vertically. You can select "Angle" and type the desired angle, in degrees, in the box to reflect the image at an angle.

Click "OK" to make the mirrored image and press "Ctrl-S" to save your document.

Alternatively, select the "Reflect Tool" and click two points on the canvas to define a virtual axis and mirror the image.
