How to Install Free Sound Devices for Windows XP

by TS Jordan ; Updated February 10, 2017

Installing free sound device driver files to your Windows XP computer enables you to use the audio device hardware currently connected to your machine. Accomplish this through the Device Manager of the computer, which is the central repository for all device drivers on the Windows XP system. This takes just a few minutes to do on most computers.

Click "Start," right-click "Computer" and click "Properties."

Click "Hardware" and click "Device Manager."

Click "Sound Controllers" and select the sound device you wish to update with your free driver file.

Click "Drivers," "Update" and select the new device file from the hard drive.
