How to Hook Up an iPad to a Cash Register
By Shawn Farner
The iPad can be a useful tool for running a retail business, especially when you pair it with the Square service. Using the Square Register app on the iPad in conjunction with a compatible receipt printer and cash drawer means that you can use your iPad as a cash register, enabling you to accept both cash and credit cards at your location. In order to use your iPad as a cash register, you must download the Square Register app and configure your receipt printer and cash drawers to work with the app.
Download the Square Register app from the App Store.
Launch the Square Register app and create a new account if you don't have one already.
Configure your receipt printer to work on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad. Read the user guide for your specific receipt printer for more information.
Tap the "Account" button on the Square Register app's main screen.
Tap the "Receipt" option and then tap on the receipt printer you added to your wireless network. You can tap the "Print Test Receipt" button to make sure your receipt printer is connected and configured properly.
Connect the large end of the CD-014A MultiPRO interface cable to the appropriate port on the back of your cash drawer.
Connect the small end of the CD-014A MultiPRO interface cable to the peripheral connector on your receipt printer.
Accept a cash payment from a customer using the Square Register app on your iPad. Whenever you tap the "Tender Cash" option in Square Register, your cash drawer opens automatically.
