How to Hide During Facebook Chat
By Carolyn Luck
Facebook chat allows members to message one another in real time. Business owners can chat with new and existing customers, vendors and other business acquaintances, handling business matters or advertising new promotions. The right-side panel of any Facebook page displays a list of users currently signed in, allowing Facebook members to see each other’s chat availability. When you’re signed in to Facebook but don't want to be contacted to chat, you can hide your chat availability in just a few clicks.
Sign in to your Facebook account with your email address and password.
Click the chat settings menu button, denoted by the gear-shaped symbol in the lower-right corner of any page.
Select the “Turn Off Chat” option to hide chat availability from all Facebook users. Hide from select users by clicking the “Advanced Settings” option. Enter the names of friends from whom you wish to remain hidden in the resulting dialog box and click the “Save” button.
Messages received while chat is turned off will go directly to your Facebook inbox. When you turn chat back on, it will default to the most recent setting; if you previously had it on for only two friends, it will allow only those two friends to see you.
