How to Give a PPTX Presentation on an iPad
By Andrew McClain
Your Apple iPad is a great tool for reading email and handling some of your work on the fly, but you can further extend its capabilities. For example, you can use it to replace your laptop for showing PowerPoint presentations. The iPad cannot open PPTX files directly, but you can convert them to a format compatible with the iPad, or you can use a program such as Apple's Keynote to import the files and run the presentation on your iPad.
Convert PowerPoint files to PDF
Launch PowerPoint on your computer and open your presentation.
Click "File | Save As" and select "PDF" from the Save as Type drop-down list. Click "Save." The presentation will be saved as a PDF file, which the iPad can open, but transitions and animations will not be converted.
Email the PDF to yourself on an email account that your iPad can access.
Open the Mail app on your iPad.
Import the file into an iPad PDF reader such as FileApp, GoodReader or Stanza. The presentation will appear on the screen.
Plug the Apple iPad Dock Connector-to-VGA adapter into the iPad's dock, and plug the other end into the projector.
Using the Keynote App
Email your presentation to yourself.
Tap the "Open in" button on the attachment and select "Keynote" to open the file.
Review the presentation to make sure that the conversion was performed correctly. Make any necessary changes.
Plug the Apple iPad Dock Connector-to-VGA adapter into the iPad's dock, and plug the other end into the projector.
