How to Fax With Epson WorkForce
By Mindi Orth
Before you can use your Epson WorkForce multi-function printer to fax, you must prepare the device to send and receive fax transmissions. This includes connecting your Epson WorkForce to an analog phone line and configuring the device with your fax information. In addition, the Epson WorkForce provides flexibility to meet your business needs by allowing you to choose whether the device responds to incoming transmissions manually or automatically.
Connect one end of a phone cable to the wall jack and then connect the other end of the cable to the port labeled “LINE” on the back of your WorkForce printer.
Connect one end of a phone cable into a telephone or answering machine and then connect the other end of the cable to the port labeled “EXTl". This allows you to share the phone line between the two devices.
Use the control panel buttons to navigate to the “Fax Settings” menu. The steps vary depending on your WorkForce model. For example, some models require you to press the “Setup” button, use the arrow keys to navigate to “Fax Settings” and then press “OK.” Alternatively, other models require you to press the “Home” button, use the arrow keys to navigate to “Setup,” press the “OK” button and then use the arrow keys to navigate to “Fax Settings.” From here, you will be asked to enter fax header information including your name and phone number.
Press the “Auto Answer” button to allow your WorkForce to answer incoming calls automatically. The Auto Answer light on the control panel will illuminate when you enable this function. Press the button again to turn off this function. The light will turn off when your WorkForce is set to receive incoming transmissions manually.
Sending a Fax
Lift the scanner lid and position your original document on the glass, with the print-side facing down, and then lower the scanner lid. Alternatively, place your document in the input tray of the automatic document feeder.
Use the control panel on your WorkForce device to select “Fax” as the desired function. For example, some models require you to press the “Fax” button on the control panel, while other models require you to press the “Home” button repeatedly until the fax option appears.
Use the control panel keypad to enter the recipient’s fax number. Alternatively, you can select the recipient from the speed dial list by pressing the “Speed Dial” button and entering the desired entry number.
Press the arrow button to choose to send the document in color or black and white. Your fax automatically will transmit in black and white if the recipient’s fax machine doesn’t support color transmissions.
Press the “Start” button to send your fax. Once the first page scans, a message will appear, asking if you want to send another page. If you have no additional pages to send, press the “Back” button to complete your fax transmission.
Otherwise, position the next page on the glass and then press the “OK” button. Repeat this process for each page you want to send and then press the “Back” button to complete the transmission. Faxing a multi-page document doesn’t require additional user input when using an automatic document feeder.
Manually Receiving a Fax
Lift the handset of your WorkForce when you hear the phone ring. A message will appear on the control panel.
Select “Receive” and then press the “OK” button. The fax should start printing shortly.
Return the handset to the cradle once you receive all pages of the faxed document.
You must use a DSL filter when using a DSL phone line with your Epson WorkForce for the device to send and receive voice and fax transmissions properly. Contact your phone service provider for additional information.
