How to Enlarge the Width of a Post in Tumblr

The width of the posts in your company Tumblr blog is determined by the blog's theme. A low fixed width, which limits your line length, helps customers read long stretches of text easily, but you may prefer to expand the width if you often include wide photos such as high resolution images of products. You can alter the width from the preset value by amending the template's code. Tumblr enables you to add custom CSS code that overrides the template's own settings.

Open your Tumblr dashboard and click the name of your company blog.

Click "Customize theme" and then click "Edit HTML"

Scroll to the bottom of the page to where you see "Add Custom CSS." Type the following code into the page:

contents .post { width:600px }

Replace "600" with the enlarged width that you want to assign the blog posts. For example, to set a width of 800 pixels, change the code to:

contents .post { width:800px }

Open your blog in another tab to preview its layout. If your widened posts now overlap with the sidebar, return to the code tab and add the following code:

.post .sidebar { width: 210px; }

Replace "210" with a reduced value, such as "110." Preview your blog again and edit your widths if necessary until the enlarged posts and the sidebar both appear fully visible.
