When you print a document, your file is converted into a set of commands that your printer can understand and act on. The resulting file is a Printer Text File (PRN). PRN files can be opened in a number of plain text viewers but instead of appearing as text, the document will appear as a scrambled and unreadable set of coded commands. In order to convert the commands of a PRN file into text, it is necessary to use a PostScript printer driver in conjunction with a PostScript reader.

Download, install and run the Adobe PostScript printer driver (see Resources).

Download GSView (see Resources).

Click on "File" and then "Print to file" on your document. Choose a location for the PRN file on your computer and click "Print."

Click on "Start" and then "My Computer" from your desktop view. Navigate to the file in which you saved your PRN.

Right-click on the file name and select "Open with."

Select "GSView" from your list of programs. Your file will be converted to text and opened in GSView.
