Businesses can create a secure network from a wireless gateway – a device that acts as a modem, router and switch all in one. As with a standalone router, administrators can connect printers to the appliance, enabling employees to access remote resources from the network. You can connect a printer to a gateway using the control panel on the printing device.

HP

Press the directional buttons on the touchscreen control panel to find the "Setup" option.

Tap "Setup | Network | Wireless | Wireless Setup Wizard" and choose your network from the list.

Use the onscreen keyboard to enter your security passphrase when prompted, then tap "Done."

Review your selections and then press "OK" to connect the printer to the wireless gateway.

Epson

Use the directional pad to select "Setup" from the control panel. Press "OK."

Select "Network Settings" and then press "OK." Scroll to "Wireless LAN Setup" and press "OK" to confirm.

Select "Yes," if prompted, and then press "OK." Select "Enable." Press "OK."

Choose "Manual Wireless LAN Setup" from the options and press "OK." Select "Yes," then "Infrastructure." Press "OK" to confirm.

Select "Search SSID" and then choose your network from the list. Enter your passphrase into the field provided. Push "Menu" to switch between uppercase, lowercase or numeric characters.

Press "OK." Review your settings on the summary screen and then press "OK" to connect the printer to the gateway.

Canon

Press the Menu button and then use the navigation pad to select "Settings." Press "OK."

Highlight "Device Settings" and then press "OK." Scroll to "LAN Settings." Press "OK."

Select "Change Wireless/Wired" and then press "OK." Choose "Wireless LAN Active" and press "OK."

Turn off the printer and connect the device to the computer via a USB cable. Insert the device software into the PC.

Click "Easy Install," then "Install." Choose "Use the Printer on Network" from the connection options and then click "Next."

Review the license agreement and click "Yes" to confirm. Select "Connect Printer to the Network for the First Time" and then click "Next."

Turn on the printer. Click "Next" when the Setup Preparations window appears onscreen.

Select your network, enter your passphrase and click "Connect." Click "Connect" again on the Set Printer IP Address screen to establish a connection with the gateway.

Tips

To find the network's security credentials, press "Windows-D" to go to the desktop. Select the Wireless Network Connection icon, right-click your network and select "View Connection Properties" from the context menu. Check "Show Characters" to see the password.

The Canon software will not prompt you to connect the printer if the network and the computer are detected automatically during setup.

Warnings

The process to connect a printer to a wireless gateway varies depending on the make and model of the device. Review the manual included with your device for further assistance, if necessary.
