How to Confirm if Your Gmail Went Through

By Avery Martin

Business owners that rely on Gmail's online email service to communicate with clients need to know when correspondence is delivered to a recipient. Using virtually any device with an Internet connection, once you send an email via Gmail, it appears in the Sent Items folder. This folder contains all of your previously-sent messages. A message in this folder hasn't necessarily reached its destination, however. To find out if the email was properly directed to your recipient, wait about 24 hours to see if you receive a message stating the message was undeliverable.

Sign in to your Gmail account and view the "Sent Mail" folder. If you don't see the Sent Mail folder, hover over the "Inbox" folder to expand the subfolders.

Click on the "Sent Mail" folder.

Locate your message. If you can't find your email in the Sent Mail folder, send your message again.

If you get a message stating that the email wasn't deliverable, send the email again or call the client to ask for an updated email address.

To ensure that your Sent Mail folder is always visible, click on the Gear icon, then select "Settings." Click the "Labels" tab and click "Show" on the Sent Mail option.

If your mail wasn't sent, click on the "Drafts" folder to see if a copy of your message was saved.

Information in this article applies to Gmail as of September 2012, which doesn't support return receipt.
