How to Close Yahoo Email on an iPad
By Diana V. Faustmann
When you add your Yahoo account to the “Mail, Contacts, Calendar” setting of an iPad, it appears handily in the Mail app, but there may be times you need to close it for good reason -- such as when you’d like to keep your Yahoo email private on a shared iPad, silent while you’re on vacation or completely separate from work-related emails. Closing your Yahoo email account involves just a few touchscreen taps within the Mail app. You can suspend Yahoo mail service temporarily or delete the account entirely. Either way, the process is simple.
Suspend Yahoo Mail
Tap your “Settings” app, followed by “Mail, Contacts, Calendars.” Find your Yahoo account listed under Accounts.
Tap your Yahoo account and then toggle its Mail switch to “Off.” This stops your iPad from displaying or receiving Yahoo emails until you tap the Mail switch back to “On.”
Tap “Done” to complete the process.
Delete Yahoo Account
Tap your “Settings” app, followed by “Mail, Contacts, Calendars.” Find your Yahoo account listed under Accounts.
Tap your Yahoo account, followed by “Delete Account.” This not only removes your Yahoo email, but also the bookmarks, notes, calendars, reminders and other information associated with the account.
Tap “Delete” in the pop-up pane to confirm your intent and complete the process.
Tips
Tap the “Mail” app to verify that you have successfully closed or suspended your Yahoo account. Your Yahoo email should no longer appear in the Mailboxes pane, under Inboxes or Accounts.
If you use the popular third-party apps Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Axis to send and receive emails, then log out of the apps or delete them from your home screen to block access.
You can also access your Yahoo email with Safari at mail.yahoo.com. This access is password-protected. Remember to sign out when you are done to optimize privacy.
