How to Change the Default Fields for iPhone Contacts
By Randall Blackburn
You can select the default fields for displaying a contact’s information when creating a new contact on your iPhone. You can select a phone number type, such as Mobile or Home, for a contact. You can also select the type of email address, when included. However, you can also add custom fields to your contact’s form. For example, you can add a “Department” field to use when adding contacts from your place of business. Create the contact’s entry first, and then re-open the contact in Edit mode to add custom fields.
Tap the “Utilities” icon in the iPhone 5 springboard screen. The Utilities screen displays.
Tap the “Contacts” option to open your Contact list.
Tap the “+” in the upper right corner of the screen to open the Add Contact form.
Type the first and last name of the contact in the First and Last fields. Optionally, type the contact’s company name in the Company field.
Tap the “Phone” option, then type the phone number for the contact in the first field.
Tap the existing label for the first field. The Label list opens.
Tap the desired label for the phone number. Tap “Mobile” to label the number as the contact’s mobile number. Tap one of the Fax options, such as “Home Fax” or “Work Fax,” to assign the appropriate label to a fax number. Tap “Done” to save the label.
Tap the Photo frame to open your photo folder and select a photo for the contact. Take a photo or select a saved photo from your photo folder. Tap the photo to assign the picture to the contact. The photo displays in the Photo frame.
Tap “Done” to save the contact. The contact’s entry is added to the All Contacts list.
Tap the “All Contacts” option to return to the Contacts list, and then tap the contact you just created to open the Contact Details screen for the contact.
Tap the “Edit” option in the top right corner of the screen to open the contact’s details in Edit mode.
Tap the “Add Field” option at the bottom of the Info screen to add a name or number field. The Add Field form opens. Tap the “Add Address Field” option to add a second address field to the form.
Type a name for the new field in the Name box, then tap “Save.” The new field is added to your Contact Details screen.
Type the custom data into the new field, and then tap “Done” to save the contact’s information.
To delete a contact, tap the contact in the Contacts list, then tap the “Edit” option. Tap “Delete Contact” at the bottom of the screen. Confirm the deletion by tapping “Delete Contact” once again. The contact is deleted from your list.
