HP LaserJet all-in-one printers with fax capabilities have a high-speed V.34 fax modem designed to operate over traditional analog phone service. You can force your LaserJet's fax modem to use a slower speed if you know your telephone connection will not support the higher speed connection. This is necessary at many small businesses that use a digital or Internet telephone system with an analog bridge such as a voice-over-IP (VoIP) system from a company like Cisco, Avaya or Alcatel.
