Verizon's landline call forwarding service comes in handy when you need to forward Verizon phone calls from a business landline to your cellphone or back again. You can also forward Verizon phone calls from a computer, should your cellphone become broken or inoperable, as is the case when the screen is broken or the battery is dead.
Turn on Call Forwarding
To turn on call forwarding, dial *72 on your telephone's keypad. If your business phone is a vintage model and doesn't support tone dialing, dial the number 1172 instead. The dial tone pauses and then returns.
Enter the Telephone Number
Punch in or dial the forwarding telephone number, including the area code using this format: *72-908-123-4567. This can be your cellular number, another branch of your business, or a home or satellite office. Tap the Call button and wait for confirmation. You should hear a confirmation tone or message from Verizon.
Answer the Phone
If the forwarding phone is in a different location, arrange to have someone else answer it for you. You'll hear two tones, indicating that call forwarding is turned on. Hang up the receiver. If you can't arrange for someone to answer the other telephone to turn on call forwarding, Verizon asks you to repeat your call within two minutes.
Verizon recognizes this as a signal to turn on call forwarding, and you hear the same two short tones to tell you it's active.
Turning Call Forwarding Off
When you are finished using Verizon's landline call forwarding service, the service is simple to deactivate. Start by lifting your telephone's receiver or tap the call button and listen for a dial tone. Enter *73 on the keypad. If you have a rotary or pulse dialing phone, enter 1173. Listen for two short tones, which is the confirmation to let you know call forwarding is turned off.
