How to Get Craigslist Verified Accounts

By Tara Kimball

Craigslist requires a valid phone number for your account when you post ads in certain categories. The categories requiring verification vary based on the geographic area, but the process for creating a phone verification are the same for all of the regional boards on the Craigslist network. Add a phone number to your account and verify that the number is correct so that Craigslist knows your account is not the product of a computer generated registration.

Step 1

Launch your preferred Internet browser and load the Craigslist homepage. Click "My Account" in the upper left corner of the window.

Step 2

Click the "Sign Up for an Account" link in the bottom left corner of the page. Type your email address in the field provided then enter the letters that appear in the confirmation image. Click "Create Account."

Step 3

Check your email for the confirmation link from Craigslist. Click the link in the email to activate your account. Enter a password for your account in the two fields provided. Review and accept the terms of use.

Step 4

Choose "Post to Classifieds" then select your category and create the ad. List pricing if applicable, address information and any other details. Upload pictures if necessary. Click "Submit."

Step 5

Review the content of your ad for verification. Click "Submit" a second time. Enter your phone number or wireless number in the fields provided on the confirmation screen. Select the option to receive the code by phone or by text. Choose the language you want to use, then click "Send the Code."

Step 6

Enter the code received in the automated phone call or text message in the field provided on the confirmation page. Click "Submit" to verify your account.
