Hiding My IP Address on Craigslistby Melly Parker
Posting an ad on Craigslist can help you sell a couch, find a job or meet the love of your life; the online billboard has sections for almost everything. If you want to ensure that your IP address is secure when you post or reply to posts, use a proxy server to create your account and upload posts. A proxy server acts as an intermediary between your computer and Craigslist, hiding your IP address, location and other information.
Open a free, IP-masking proxy connection website (see Resources).
Type in the Craigslist address you want to post to in the address bar — this varies depending on which location you plan to post to. Press the button next to the address bar to open Craigslist.
Click "My Account" in the left toolbar and choose "Sign Up for an Account." Type in your email address and the CAPTCHA answer, and then click "create account."
Open the email account you used to register while still in the IP masking proxy window. Click on the verification link, and then enter a password. Re-enter it, and submit the passwords to finish creating your account.
Click "Return to your account," and then "I ACCEPT" to accept Craigslist's terms of service. Click "New Posting" and follow the prompts to create any post you choose.
- If you plan to regularly post to Craigslist, you can also download and install an IP masking program.
- Posting to some Craigslist locations requires a phone number verification.
