Despite the fact that it is literally in a desert in the middle of nowhere, the Grand Canyon has surprising cell phone coverage from the three most popular cell phone carriers in America--Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and AT&T, as well as smaller carriers like T-Mobile and even Cricket.

Verizon Wireless

Because it is the biggest wireless network in America, it is no surprise that Verizon Wireless offers coverage everywhere, even in the Grand Canyon. Offering digital cell phone coverage throughout most of Grand Canyon National Park, Verizon Wireless users will be able to make calls and send text messages with ease when they are on vacation to the Grand Canyon. In addition to voice and text message coverage, Verizon also offers mobile broadband and V Cast coverage in the Grand Canyon.

Sprint

Despite the fact that Sprint is one of the largest wireless companies in America, it does not offer the best coverage of the Grand Canyon. Voice coverage is available throughout most of Grand Canyon, Arizona, but it is merely roaming service, so Sprint users may not be able to get a strong signal. There is also very limited data coverage in the Grand Canyon from Sprint, so many users may not be able to access all of the features of their mobile broadband service.

AT&T

The sole carrier of the iPhone, AT&T, does offer wireless coverage throughout the Grand Canyon, but it is not their own. Grand Canyon coverage from AT&T is through a partner company, although AT&T claims that reception there is still good. EDGE service is also available in the Grand Canyon, but again, it is provided by a partner company. Users of AT&T's pay-as-you-go plan, GoPhone, however, are out of luck. AT&T has no GoPhone coverage in the Grand Canyon whatsoever.

T-Mobile

As one of America's fastest-growing mobile carriers, T-Mobile has been expanding to include more coverage than ever before. In the Grand Canyon, according to their coverage maps, T-Mobile provides "Very Good" to "Excellent" service for T-Mobile customers through their own network, not a partner's. This amount of coverage means that T-Mobile customers should not have any problems making calls or sending picture messages of their vacations to their friends and families.

Cricket

One of the smaller cell phone carriers in America, Cricket even offers decent cell phone coverage around the Grand Canyon area. With Nationwide Talk & Text coverage available in the more-populated area of the Grand Canyon and roaming coverage available in less-populated areas, Cricket users should be able to make calls and send text messages. Although Cricket offers no data or broadband coverage around the Grand Canyon.
