How to Format WordPad for APAby Stephanie Ellen
WordPad is a basic word processor for Windows. While it doesn't have as many features as its pricey cousin, Microsoft Word, you can format an APA paper in it. APA style is a type of formatting used when writing academic papers; it is usually used in the social sciences, such as psychology or sociology. APA formatting can be complex, but there are templates available with pre-formatted papers you can use in WordPad instead of formatting your paper from scratch.
Download the APA RTF template from the Wright State University website.
Click the WordPad button, then "Open" and browse your computer for the file you downloaded in step 1. Click "Open" when you have located the file.
Click the "WordPad" button and then click "Save As." Click "RTF" and then type a name for your document into the "File name" text box.
Click the "Save" button. WordPad is now ready to use with APA formatting for your paper.
- If you have trouble locating the downloaded RTF file, click the "Windows" button on your computer and then type "apatmp" into the "Search" box. Right-click the file in the search results and then click "Properties." The location of the file will be shown, which is often in the "Downloads" folder on your computer.
