How to Fix a Sony Bravia XBR With a Flashing Red Standby Light
By Andrew McClain
When not functioning properly, your Sony Bravia XBR HDTV will give you clues as to what you can do to fix the problem. One issue that can occur is that, when trying to turn on the television, the power indicator light blinks red instead of the unit powering up. Although the light indicates a problem with the television, there are steps that you can take to get the TV to work properly once again. Alternatively, you can also restore the TV to its factory settings, which will usually solve the issue and cause the light to stop blinking.
Step 1
Unplug the television's electrical cord from the wall outlet.
Step 2
Disconnect all devices plugged into the television, including any game systems, DVRs or DVD players. Leave the television off for at least five minutes.
Step 3
Plug the television back into the wall outlet, and try to turn it back on again using the remote control or the "Power" button on the unit itself. If the television starts up without the blinking light, turn it off, reconnect your devices and turn it back on again. If you still see the blinking light, perform a factory reset.
Step 4
Point the remote control at the television, and press and hold the "Up Arrow" button. At the same time, press and release the "Power" button on the television. Your television will reset to its factory settings, and the red light will no longer blink.
