How to Enable the Wireless Assistant on an HP Laptop (8 Steps)

Most HP laptops today are able to interface with wireless devices, including your cell phone, router and modem. To accomplish this, you'll need to first enable your wireless LAN through a touch-sensitive button, available on the body of the HP laptop. For instance, on the HP Pavilion dv7 notebook PC, this button resembles a blue signal-emitting tower when lit, and it occupies the right-most section of the keyboard panel under the laptop screen. When your wireless LAN is enabled, you have the option to enable or disable individual wireless devices for the HP laptop. This task is accomplished by the HP Wireless Assistant application.

Step 1

Verify whether the "Wireless Assistant" is already enabled. It is represented by a green signal-emitting tower icon on the bottom right of the system notification tray. If you cannot find this icon, then the "Wireless Assistant" isn't enabled.

Step 2

Navigate to the "Start" menu.

Step 3

Select the "Control Panel" menu item. This will open up a pop-up window.

Step 4

Select "Mobile PC." This will refresh the window.

Step 5

Select "Windows Mobility Center." This will open up a pop-up window.

Step 6

Click on the green signal-emitting tower icon. This will open the "HP Wireless Assistant" application in a pop-up window.

Step 7

Click on the "Properties" button at the bottom left. The Properties dialog will open.

Step 8

Check the box labeled "HP Wireless Assistant icon in notification area." A green signal-emitting tower icon will appear on the bottom right of the system notification tray.
