How to Enable UPnP on a Westell

by John Johnston

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a setting on your Westell router that you can enable to help improve the connection of external devices to your network. Enabling UPnP is advised when you are using a games console online. It allows you to connect to your friends and other users as well as to online games much easier. It takes just a few minutes and mouse clicks to enable UPnP on your Westell router.

Click "Start."

Select "All Programs" and then "Accessories." Open the program called "Command Prompt."

Type "ipconfig" into the Command Prompt text box, and press "Enter." Write down the default gateway it gives you.

Open up your Internet browser. Click on the address bar at the top of the window, and type in the default gateway. Press "Enter."

Type in your user name and password for your Westell router. If you have not changed the user name and password, they will both most likely be "admin."

Click on the Advanced tab at the top of the window, and locate "Enable UPnP" from the list of options. Tick the box next to it to enable UPnP. Click "Apply" to complete the process.
