How to Download Music to a Philips GoGear MP3 Player
By Matt McKay
The GoGear line of portable MP3 players by Philips includes an array of models with various features and storage capacities. Philips employs its proprietary "Songbird" software for ease of music download and management from files on your computer, and you may also download entire music libraries from iTunes. If your Songbird software does not operate properly, has not been installed or if you are using an older GoGear model without software, you may use the "drag and drop" method to download MP3 music files.
Download Music Using Phillips Songbird Software
Install the Philips Songbird software by inserting the CD and following the installation instructions on your computer.
Plug your Philips GoGear MP3 player into your computer with the supplied USB cable. The GoGear player will turn on automatically and launch the Songbird Software. If the software does not launch when the player is plugged in, click the Songbird icon on your computer's desktop or locate it within your program menu.
Click "File" located on the Songbird toolbar, and click "Import Media," which will open a search window on your computer.
Locate the MP3 file you wish to import, click to highlight and click "Okay." The MP3 files will now upload to your GoGear player.
Download Your iTunes Library
Click "Tools" followed by "Options" from the Songbird toolbar at the top of your software screen.
Click on the tab labeled "Media Importer" tab, followed by a click on the "iTunes Import/Export." This allows you to choose your iTunes library and list available options.
Click on "Import Library" when you have made your selection and options. Your iTunes library will be imported into the Songbird software.
Click on individual music files or groups within your Songbird library and hit "Okay" for transfer to your GoGear player.
Drag and Drop Download Method
Plug the GoGear player into your computer with a USB cable. The player will turn on automatically and your computer will load the drivers and recognize the device as an external drive.
Click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop or in your "Start" menu and click on the Philips GoGear device icon. This will open the GoGear file folder and display files within the player. Note that in some instances with older operating systems the player may appear as "USB Mass Storage Device."
Locate the MP3 files on your computer that you wish to download to the player.
Click on the desired files while holding the mouse button, drag the files to the GoGear folder and release the mouse button. Your files will begin copying to the player and be ready to listen to when the process is completed.

Tips
- You may choose multiple MP3 files for downloading by holding down the "Control" key on your computer as you click files with your mouse. If your file choices are in consecutive order, holding down the "Shift" key and clicking on the first and last file will highlight the other files within the group.
Warnings
- Use the "Safely Remove Device" feature located on the bottom right of your desktop toolbar before unplugging your MP3 player. You may risk losing music files or crashing the GoGear device without using this command.
