How to Download and Open a PRC File to a Kindle
By Andrew McClain
Your Amazon Kindle e-reader is not limited to opening only e-books from Amazon.com -- you can also read other e-book formats, including PDF and PRC. PRC files are e-books encoded in the MOBI format, which Amazon does not use. However, while your Kindle cannot download the file directly, you can manually transfer the file from your computer using the Kindle's included USB cable, and then open it like any other e-book file.
Step 1
Plug your Kindle into your computer's USB port.
Step 2
Browse to the directory that contains your PRC file, and then copy it.
Step 3
Locate your Kindle in Windows Explorer or on your computer's desktop, and then double-click on it to open it.
Step 4
Browse to the "Documents" directory in the Kindle, and then paste the PRC file into it.
Step 5
Unplug your Kindle from your computer.
Step 6
Go to your Kindle's home screen to see the new e-book listed with your other books, and then select it to open it.
