How to Download Lexmark Printer Installation Software
By Ryan Bauer
Lexmark printers come from the factory with a software CD. That disk allows the printer to be installed on a computer. If the CD has been lost, or the printer was purchased used and didn't come with one, it can't be installed until a copy of the software has been obtained. The Lexmark website offers free downloads of the software drivers for all of its printer models. Since these files come in a self-contained installer, no manual configuration is required, and setup only takes a few minutes once the file has finished downloading.
Visit the Lexmark website (see Resources). Select "Drivers & Downloads," then "Driver Finder." Enter your printer model in the search box and click "Search." Find your printer on the list and click "Download Driver." Choose your operating system from the drop-down menu, and the browser will automatically redirect to the download page. Click "Download Now," and choose to save the file. Wait for the download to complete before moving on.
Open the file that was just downloaded. Walk through the steps in the installer, answering any questions you are prompted with. Setup will begin copying any needed files to the hard drive, which will likely take several minutes to complete. When it has finished, the installer will alert you that the process is complete.
Test the printer by clicking "File," then "Print" in a program such as your web browser or word processor. Select the Lexmark printer from the drop-down list, and click "OK" to print.
- Most Lexmark driver packages are between 50 and 100 megabytes. The download process will likely take a while depending on your connection speed.
