How to Download Avery Dennison Labels Into Microsoft Word

Templates are a type of framework that make formatting much easier. There are thousands of MS Word templates available, both on the Microsoft website and other websites on the Internet. Avery is one of the largest office suppliers in the world and there are templates for nearly every product Avery offers. If you have a sheet of Avery labels you need to print, the easiest way is to use a template designed especially for that product.

Get Template from Microsoft

Open Microsoft Word and click the "Office" button at the top-left of the screen. Click "New" to begin a new document. The "New Document" window will open.

Scroll down the left pane and select "Labels." This will bring up options in the center pane.

Click "More Labels" in the center pane. Click "Other Labels" to go to the Microsoft website. The labels template page will open in the center pane.

Scroll down the labels until you find the one that states it is compatible with the Avery labels you want to print and click on it. A description will appear in the right pane. Click the "Download" icon at the bottom of the window. The template will install directly into your default template folder and will be available for immediate use. To use the template in the future, complete Step One. In Step Two, instead of clicking on "Labels," click "My Templates." The templates you have downloaded with appear in the middle pane.

Get Templates from Avery

Open your web browser and go to the Avery website (see Resource section).

Click "Find a Template" in the "Quicklinks" on the left of the page. This will bring up categories of Avery products. Click on the category that best fits your Avery product. A new page will open with all of the available labels for the category you chose. Scroll down the page until you find the one that will work with your Avery product and with MS Word. Click the "Download" link to the bottom-right of the template you want.

Complete the short registration form and click "OK." The download will begin automatically.

Locate the file you downloaded and open it. It will open in Word and be ready for use.

Click the "Office" button and place your cursor over "Save as." A small window should appear to the right. Click "Word Template." The "Save As" window will appear. Type the following path into the "File Name" box: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\XXXX.doc "Username" is your Windows log on name and "XXXX.doc" is the name you want to give the file.

Click the "Save" icon in the bottom right of the window. The template is now stored in you folder and you can access it directly from MS Word, just like you did in the first section.

Tips

  • check If you know the Avery product number, you can enter it into the "Search" box on the Avery website. That will automatically retrieve every template compatible with your product.
  • check If you installed MS Word somewhere other than in the default folder, you will have to search for your templates folder and change the file path in Section Two, Step Five, accordingly.
