Do you Need a Voltage Regulator for an LCD TV?

When electrical power fluctuates, LCD televisions can suffer damage, especially if the voltage peaks too high or drops too low. Using a voltage regulator can help even out the power supplied to the television, increasing its life.
Voltage regulators work by maintaining a constant stream of electricity to an appliance. Besides LCD TVs, you can also plug other appliances, such as refrigerators, into the voltage regulators.
If you live in an area where the power supply fluctuates because of heavy demand, using a voltage regulator may prolong the life of your television. Power outages can be hard on appliances. If your power is stable, you may not need a voltage regulator.
Two basic types of voltage regulators are available for LCD TVs --- active or passive regulators. Active regulators can increase the power going to the television when the power drops. Passive regulators limit the amount of voltage going to an appliance but cannot increase the voltage when it drops. If your area seldom experiences power drops, a passive regulator may be sufficient.
