How Do I Run My Webcam?

A webcam that is connected to your computer can be used to communicate with friends and family. To do this you need to use a service such as Yahoo Messenger or Skype. Prior to initiating the service, you have to install and set up your webcam software to properly run the device.

Install Software

Insert the installation CD for your webcam into the CD/DVD drive for your computer. Proceed through the "Installation Wizard" or "Setup" window to run the software. Click the "Next" button to continue.

Insert the USB cable for the webcam into a USB port on your computer when prompted during setup.

Click the "Finish" button to complete the software installation. Reboot your computer, if prompted, to complete the software installation.

Yahoo Messenger

Double-click the icon for "Yahoo Messenger" to open the program.

Click the "Messenger" drop down menu and select the option for "Start My Webcam."

Select the option for "Preferences" from the "Messenger" drop down menu.

Click the category for "Webcam," and then click the button for "Camera Source."

Select your webcam from the drop down selection list.

Skype

Download and install the Skype software on your system. Double-click the "Skype" icon to open the program. Enter your information into the required fields to create a Skpye account. Click the "Sign In" button to continue.

Click the "Tools" drop down menu and highlight "Options." Click the option for "Video Settings." Put a check in the box for "Enable Skype Video" and "Start my video automatically when I call."

Select your webcam from the drop down selection box. Click the "Save" button to save the settings.

Click the "Add Contacts" button and enter the email address or Skype name for a contact. Click the name to add it to your Skype contacts list.

Select a contact, and then click the green colored button to place a call.
