How Do I Reinstate My Gmail Account?

by Leonardo R. Grabkowski

Gmail accounts are permanently attached to the Google account they were originally created with. Therefore, if you delete your Gmail account, you can always reinstate it at a later time and keep the same Gmail ID. If it's been a few weeks or less since you deleted your Gmail account, you may be able to recover your previous contacts and messages; however, after a few weeks, you'll likely only be able to reinstate your Gmail ID.

Sign in to the Google account previously associated with the Gmail address.

Click on your name in the upper right corner of the Google page and click on "Account Settings." Scroll down to the "Try Something New" section and click on "Gmail."

Type your name and create a password. Your Gmail ID is prepopulated in the field -- it cannot be changed. Choose a security question and enter your birthday.

Fill out the CAPTCHA word code. Click on "I accept. Create my account" to reinstate your Gmail address.
