How Do I Print a PDF in Black & White?

By Mel Frank

A PDF, or Portable Document Format, is a technology designed by Adobe Systems. This is a versatile program used to open and view nearly any document--it makes no difference if your computer is a PC or Mac. This makes a PDF document perfect for use when emailing documents, or publishing documents online for viewers to read and print. Printing the document in a black and white format is simple, requiring an easy change of printer settings.

Step 1

Open the PDF you wish to print.

Step 2

Click the "File" option from the toolbar at the top of the page, then choose "Print."

Step 3

Click "Preferences" from the gray box that appears on your screen.

Step 4

Select the "Color" tab at the top of the gray box.

Step 5

Choose the "Print on Grayscale" option, and select "Use Black Ink Cartridge" if applicable.

Step 6

Click "OK" at the bottom of the gray box to accept the setting.

Step 7

Click "Print" and the document will print in black and white.
