If you are not a fan of the Toshiba Tecra's touchpad, you can disable it by using the function keys on the keyboard. Some users find that they may inadvertently touch the touchpad while typing if they rest their palms. That small action could lead to time-consuming errors, which matters when you run your own business. When the touchpad is disabled, you can use a mouse or the arrow keys to navigate on your computer's screen. The touchpad remains disabled until you enable it again.

Step 1

Press and hold the “Fn” key. The Function key is located on the bottom row of the Tecra keyboard.

Step 2

Press the “F9” key in the top row of keys to disable the touchpad. When disabled, an icon of a touchpad with a “Prohibition” symbol over it is briefly displayed on the computer screen.

Release the “Fn” key to complete the process.

  • To enable the touchpad on your Toshiba Tecra, repeat the process you used to turn it off. When it is enabled, an icon of just the touchpad is displayed.
