How to Delete Items on the Computerby Elizabeth Chaplin
Sometimes the desktop and folders on your computer get cluttered with innumerable icons and files that make locating what you want complicated. Instead of sifting through the clutter, simply remove the items from your computer. When program icons are deleted, it does not uninstall the program. Icons are "shortcuts" to a program, and do not represent the entire application. When files or folders are deleted, they are thrown into the computer's Recycle Bin, which will store the discarded files until they are permanently deleted. There are a few different ways to remove items from your computer.
Right-Clicking to Delete
Right-click on the icon, file or folder.
Navigate to "Delete" and click it.
Select "Delete Shortcut" from the Confirm Shortcut Delete dialog box if you are removing an icon. For removing files or folders, select "Yes" from the Confirm File Delete dialog box.
Right-click on the computer's Recycle Bin, which is an icon on the desktop with the recycle symbol on it.
Select "Empty Recycle Bin" to permanently delete the icons, files and folders in the bin.
Using the "Delete" Key
Click on the icon, file or folder you wish to remove.
Press the "Delete" key on your computer's keyboard.
Choose "Delete Shortcut" from the Confirm Shortcut Delete dialog box for icon removal. Hit "Yes" from the Confirm File Delete dialog box for file or folder deletion.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin icon and select "Empty Recycle Bin" to permanently delete the icons, files and folders.
