Back up your QuickBooks account file by creating portable company file. Portable Company Files are also a great option if you need to transport your books to another location, perhaps for help with your accounts or to change computers. Your portable company file can be created in a matter of minutes, leaving you ready to transport your account file nearly anywhere or providing a stable backup copy of your QuickBooks file for safe storage.
Click the "File" menu from your main QuickBooks panel. Select "Save Copy or Backup."
Click "Portable Company File" in the dialog box and click "Next." This will open a dialog box to choose your file path to save the portable file.
Select the "Save In" drop-down menu and choose the area you wish to save the file to. Click "Save."
Click the "OK" button, and then click "OK" again to confirm that you want to save the portable file. Your file will be saved to the location you selected.
