How to Create a Birthday Greeting Card & Post it on Facebook
By Nick Flegg
You can create a birthday greeting for your friends and family either using an e-card website or by creating your own unique card from scratch. When using an e-card website, you can choose from a wide range of pre-made cards that you can then personalize with your own custom message. You can also create your own card using free image-creation software and then post it on your friend's Facebook Timeline yourself.
Blue Mountain
Blue Mountain is an e-card company that enables you to either send your greetings cards to your friends via email or post your creations on their wall. You can browse through the collection of birthday e-cards and personalize your selection to suit your needs. By synchronizing your Facebook account to the Blue Mountain website, you will get alerts when a friend's birthday is approaching. Blue Mountain offers a seven-day free trial to new members, after which you will be required to pay a monthly fee of $4 or a yearly fee of $20 (correct as of July 2013).
American Greetings
American Greetings is a subscription-based e-card company. You can become a member for a monthly fee of $4 or a yearly cost of $20 (correct as of July 2013). Free trials are sometimes available. Cards that can be posted on Facebook have a "F" symbol above the e-card thumbnail. You can post selected e-cards on either your friend's wall or your own wall. When posting, you can add a personal message to make your card unique.
Plaxo
Plaxo is a e-card service that enables you to schedule your e-cards up to one month in advance. You can import your friend's birthdays into your Plaxo account to receive reminders when the big day is approaching. Each card can be personlized with custom messages to give it a unique touch. Plaxo offers a 30-day free trial for new members, after which you can subscribe for $20 a year (correct as of July 2013). Some e-cards in the library are available to send for free.
Create Your Own Card
You can design your own unique creations and post them on your friend's Timeline along with an optional caption. To create a greeting card from scratch, you can either use Paint, download a free paint app such as Fresh Paint (available in Windows Store) or use an online service such as One Motion's Sketch & Paint (link in Resources). Once you have completed your card, you can save the file to your desktop and then upload it to your Facebook's Timeline for your friend to see.
When signed into Facebook, you can post your photo to your friend's Timeline by visiting your friend's profile page and clicking the "Photo" button. You can then select the image from your computer and add an optional message to make the post even more personal. Your friend's privacy settings may be different to yours, so make sure you don't mind your e-card being publicly visible before posting.
