How to Convert XML to CSV
By Rachel Miller
The XML (Extensible Markup Language) file extension is produced by contemporary web development and design software programs to give documents structure and style. While it is possible to view these files in any text editor it is sometimes necessary to convert XML data to easily-readable and transferable tabular formats such as CSV (Comma Separated Values). With the continued advancement of web design comes the software to convert these files for you with a few simple clicks of your mouse.
Open your web browser and go to the XML File Converter site (see Resources).
Download, install and run the software.
Click on "Open XML" in the right-hand corner of the software's dialog box.
Select the fields you wish to convert into CSV and press "Next."
Click on "Options" in the top left-hand corner of the dialog box and choose a destination for the file on your computer and click "OK."
Click "Save as" in the top right-hand corner of the dialogue box. Select ".CSV" in the drop-down box next to "File Type" and click "Save."
