How to Convert VSD Files to Visio XML
By Tammy Clevenger
Microsoft Visio is a commercial diagramming application that allows the user to create vector drawings and diagrams. The native diagram file type for Microsoft Visio is the VSD file type. However, Visio will also allow you to save a Visio diagram as an XML file. A Visio file in XML format may be identified by the file extension of VDX. When you save a Visio drawing in XML format, all stencils and addi-ins are saved in the the XML drawing file.
Step 1
Right-click on the VSD file, and click "Open With Microsoft Visio" or double-click on the VSD file to open the drawing in Vision.
Step 2
Click the "File" option on the top navigation ribbon.
Step 3
Click the "Save As" option.
Step 4
Click the "Save as Type" drop-down box, then click the "Visio XML (*.xml)" option from the list of file types.
Step 5
Click the "Save" button, and the VSD file is now saved in the Visio XML format.
