How to Convert MVI to MP4

by Will Conley

An MVI file is a movie format native to the proprietary software AutoCAD, a 3D drafting program. MVI files cannot usually be played by external programs on PCs and Macs. Therefore, these files must be converted to a format playable by other media. The MP4 format is nearly universal and suits that purpose. You probably don't already have the software necessary to convert MVI files to MP4, but there are plenty of downloadable programs to choose from.

1

Download and install a video conversion program on your hard drive. Many free and paid versions exist. See the "Resources" section for a list of suggested programs.

2

Launch the video converter.

3

Load the MVI files you wish to convert to MP4 in the video conversion program. To do this (in most cases), select "Add Video" or "Browse." Navigate to the video or videos you wish to convert and open them.

4

Select "MP4" as your output format in the video conversion program.

5

Select the output folder in which you wish to save the converted video files. Make sure you can find them later. If you are not sure where to place your converted MP4 files, select your "Videos" folder or the Desktop.

6

Click "Convert." Your MVI files will be copied and converted to the MP4 format, and saved to the folder you selected in Step 5.

Tip

  • check Your original MVI files will not be affected by conversion to MP4. The conversion program will create copies of your files and convert them before saving to the selected folder.
