The Facebook social network enables users from around the globe to connect and interact. So long as Facebook access is not restricted by government sanction, anyone can sign up for a free Facebook account and connect internationally with others. Connecting with international friends on Facebook is extremely easy and follows the same basic procedure as connecting with Facebook friends in your own country.

Step 1

Sign in to your Facebook account.

Step 2

Type your friend's name into the search bar at the top of the screen. If your friend is in a country where the English alphabet is not used or did not enter his or her name using the English alphabet, you'll need to enter the name using the alphabet he or she used. This may require you to contact your friend and have him or her send you the name as it appears on Facebook so that you can copy and paste it into the search bar.

Step 3

Locate your friend in the list of people that the search will provide. There will likely be numerous entries for the same name unless your friend has added something unique to his or her Facebook display name. Check carefully to make sure you have the right person -- photos are usually the best hint.

Step 4

Click the "Add Friend" button next to the name to send a Friend Request. You will have to wait for your friend to accept the request before he or she will appear on your list.
