There's no denying the convenience of a digital video recorder from your cable or satellite provider to time-shift your favorite shows, ensuring you don't miss an episode despite your busy schedule. Connecting modern DVRs to flat panels like Sony's Bravia line is a quick process, thanks to the one-cable convenience afforded by HDMI cabling.

Step 1

Locate the HDMI output jack on the back of your DVR. Find a free corresponding jack on your Sony Bravia. Make note of the numerical assignment for that input, since you'll need it in the Bravia's setup menu.

Step 2

Remove the protective sleeves from each end of the HDMI cable. Discard these or retain them to protect the ends of the cable should you discontinue its use.

Step 3

Slide one end of the HDMI cable into the DVR's HDMI out. Slip the other end into the chosen Bravia HDMI input. It does not matter which end is inserted into which device.

Step 4

Turn on the DVR and the Bravia television. Press the "HOME" button on the Bravia's remote control.

Step 5

Scroll left using the Bravia remote control to the "External Inputs" option. Click the "Enter" button to access this mode.

Step 6

Click the "Label Inputs" option. Scroll down the list until you locate the HDMI input options.

Step 7

Click on the HDMI input you selected for connection to the DVR box. Scroll through the device list until you reach the "DVR" option. Click on this option to select it.

Step 8

Press the "Menu" button three times to exit the setup field.

Step 9

Press the "Input" button on the Bravia's remote control to select the HDMI input used with your DVR. You should see the current selected channel or the initial setup screen for the device.
