My Computer Won't Run Automatic Updates

by Juderson Jean-Baptiste

It is very important to keep your operating system up to date. The Windows Update feature regularly downloads and installs the latest updates from Microsoft. You can choose to manually install the updates or let your operating system install the updates automatically. Microsoft recommends users allow Windows to update their computers automatically. If your computer does not update automatically, you can activate the feature in Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Windows XP

Click the "Start" button.

Click on "Control Panel."

Access the "Security Center."

Select "Automatic Updates," and click "OK" to save your settings.

Windows 7 and Vista

Click the "Start" button.

Click "All Programs."

Select "Windows Update."

Navigate to the left side of the window and click "Change Settings."

Under "Important Updates," select "Install Updates Automatically."
