My Computer Won't Recognize a Blank CD
By Charles Poole
Computer CD-R drives are used to burn files onto a blank CD. If your computer doesn't recognize the blank CDs, more than likely, the CD drive has an outdated driver or the wrong driver has been installed on the system. Updating this driver is not very hard. You can do it yourself and save the money you would have spent on a repair.
Click the "Start" button on your computer and click on the "All Programs" button.
Click on the "Windows Update" button.
Log into your system as an administrator if you are prompted. Enter your administrator user name and password into the box and press the "OK" button.
Click on the "Check for updates" button on the left-hand side of the Windows Update window.
Click on the "View Available Updates" button and select your CD drive's driver from the list.
Click on the "Install" button and type the administrator's user name and password into the fields if prompted.
