How to Close an iPad

by Steve Gregory

Although you can set your iPad to automatically power off after a set amount of time, the device can remain on if an application is active. Some applications, such as those that play media, can override the device's settings so that playback is uninterrupted. However, if you no longer want to view the media or you just want to conserve power, you can close your iPad using the device's physical buttons.

Press the "Sleep/Wake" button on the top right edge of the iPad.

Hold the button until the "Slide to Power Off" slide appears on the device's screen.

Slide the slider from left to right to turn off your iPad. If your iPad does not turn off, press the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons simultaneously, and hold them until the Apple logo appears on the screen. This action resets your iPad.

Repeat the steps to turn off your iPad after the Home screen appears.
