How to Clear an Email Address From the Drop-Down Box
By Kristan Hart
Technology helps to make so many things easier, including helping us determine who to send an email to with just the click of your mouse. Email programs, such as Microsoft Outlook and Gmail, feature a drop-down box, which allows you to type in the first few letters of the email recipient, and then you can click on the name you choose. If you ever want to clear an email address from the drop-down box, there are different procedures to follow for each email program.
Microsoft Outlook
Step 1
Open up a new email message.
Step 2
Click in the "To" box and begin to type a name.
Step 3
Note the drop-down list that appears automatically.
Step 4
Use your "Up" or "Down" arrow to scroll through the names in the drop-down list that appears.
Step 5
Highlight the name you want to remove.
Step 6
Press "Delete" on your keyboard.
Gmail
Step 1
Click "Contacts" on the left side of your Gmail screen.
Step 2
Select "All Contacts." This is the depository for all contacts you previously sent an email to, even if they are not in your personal contact list.
Step 3
Locate the name and email address of the person you want to remove.
Step 4
Press "Delete" on your keyboard to manually delete the email address so it will no longer display in the drop-down list.
Step 5
Log out of your Gmail account, and clear your browser cache.
