How to Disable Paging Executive in Windows for a Solid State Drive
By Mark David
Solid State Drives wear out over time, so reducing the amount of temporary data written to an SSD is essential for increasing its lifespan. Windows includes many options for reducing drive usage including turning off the Paging Executive, which prevents some of the core operating system files writing to the SSD. Windows instead stores these files in memory while the system is running. As long as enough memory is available, turning this feature off will not affect computer performance.
Step 1
Press the Windows-R keys to launch the Run dialog. Type regedit and press Enter.
Step 2
Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | System | Control | Session Manager and then Memory Management by double clicking on each.
Step 3
Double click DisablePagingExecutive in the right side of the window. Change the Value data entry from "0" to "1."
Step 4
Close the registry editor and reboot your machine.
