I-Pass is Illinois' electronic toll road collection system. Frequent drivers on Illinois and Indiana toll roads can purchase electronic devices called flatpak transponders, which are mounted onto a car's windshield. Every time the car travels through a toll plaza, a sensor reads the information on the transponder and money is deducted from the user's account. I-Pass transponders come preloaded with money, but users must log into their I-Pass accounts online to refill their balances. Knowing your balance is important; drivers passing tolls with a zero or negative balance are subject to fines.

Go to getipass.com and click the blue button labeled "Login to my I-Pass" in the upper right corner.

Log in with your username and password at the appropriate prompts.

Look for your I-Pass balance on your User Information screen.

Enter your credit card information to increase your balance, if necessary.

Call the I-PASS hotline at (800) 824-7277 if you ever don't have access to a computer. It's open Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A number of customer service centers also handle foot traffic, and are open Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
