Wireless cameras used for security give you the ability to place a wireless camera in any location within a 30-foot proximity of your wireless router. This is great if you need to move your camera positioning on a regular basis and you do not want change cable routing. However, if you need to place your camera past the 30-foot radius or you do not plan on moving the camera very often you are better off to change from a wireless to a wired connection. A wired connection prevents intermittent connection issues inherent with wireless connections.

Place a paper clip into the reset hole. The reset hole is usually located on the bottom or the back of the camera depending on the model of camera you use. Resetting the camera removes all of the network settings that allow the camera to connect to your wireless network.

Measure from your wireless router to the location where you want to place the camera. Ensure the cable is out of the way of foot traffic to avoid safety hazards. Ensure the place you want to place the camera has an electrical outlet within 3 feet. Otherwise, you must also run an extension cord to power the camera. Purchase an Ethernet cable long enough to connect your camera to the router.

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN port located on the back of the wireless router. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port located on the back of the camera.

Connect the camera to the power source to turn it on.
