How to Change PDF to Open in Preview Not Adobe Acrobat

Preview is the default PDF viewer in Mac OS X. When you launch Adobe Acrobat on a Mac, you automatically see a prompt asking if you want to set Acrobat as the default PDF viewer on the computer. If you click the “Yes” button, the file association for PDFs on the computer changes to Acrobat, so any time you click on a PDF, it will open in Acrobat.

Step 1

Click on any PDF file in the Finder to select it.

Step 2

Go to the “File” menu and select “Get Info.” You also have the option of pressing the “Control” key on the keyboard while clicking on the file and selecting “Get Info” from the contextual menu.

Step 3

Adjust the “Open with” menu to “Preview.” Press “Change All” to set all PDFs to open with Preview.
