How to Change the PayPal Account Type

PayPal offers three different account types -- personal, premier and business -- each with different benefits and fees. PayPal allows you to change some account types. You may upgrade a personal account to a premier or business account, or switch a premier to a business account on your own, but to downgrade or switch from business to premier, you must contact the PayPal support line. You may also have two separate personal and premier or business accounts, but each one must have a unique email address, credit card and bank account.

Upgrade to Premier or Business

Log in to your PayPal account. Click on the "My Account" link to go to your main page.

Click the "Upgrade" or "Upgrade Account" link beneath the welcome message. Click "Upgrade Now" on the next page.

Select whether you want to upgrade to a premier or business account and click "Continue." If you chose premier, your account will be upgraded.

Fill out the business information form on the next page and click "Continue" to complete your upgrade to a business account.

Change Premier to Business

Log in to your PayPal account. Click on the "My Account" link to go to your main page.

Click the "Profile" link. Click "Add Business Information" or "Personal/Business Information" on the next page. Click the "Upgrade" button on this page.

Fill out your business information in the form and click the "Submit" button.
