How to Change a Hotmail MSN Password

by Misty Rodriguez

Windows Live Hotmail is a free, web-based email service. It is part of Microsoft's Windows Live and offers various features, such as a generous 5 GB of storage, an integrated instant messenger and the ability to share calendars with others. It is a good idea for Hotmail users to change their passwords often as a preventative measure. If someone gets a hold of a Hotmail password, they have access to all of the private information within that account.

Open up your web browser and visit the MSN Account Services page (see Resources for link). Log in with your user name and password.

Select "Credentials," and then click on "Change your password."

Enter your current password in the "Old password" field.

Enter your new password, and then confirm that it's correct by typing it in once more in the following text box. Be sure that you have the "Caps Lock" off, as your password is case sensitive.

Choose "Password expiration," and then click on "Continue" if you want your password to expire automatically in 72 days. MSN will send you a reminder when your password is about to expire.

Enter an alternate email address if you don't currently have one on record. It's good to have one listed in case you forget your password. However, if you don't want to enter this optional information, click on "Skip," and then select "Done."
