How to Change the Album Name for a Music File
By Darrin Meyer
Millions of computer users employ multimedia player/manager programs such as iTunes and Windows Media Player to download, store and play digital music and video files. One feature of these programs is the ability to display and change the names of those files, including the artist, genre and title of the album. Changing this information is easy. You just need to access the intended files stored in your media player program.
Using iTunes
Open ITunes and click "Music" in the "Library" menu on the top left-hand side to display your music library. Click the icon in the top toolbar that displays the library in song list mode.
Scroll down to the song(s) that you wish to rename with a different album title, or any other information. Click to highlight it; then right click on it and select "Get Info" on the menu that pops up. Hold down the "Shift" key and use the up or down arrow to highlight multiple files to change the information for all selected files at the same time. Click "Yes" when it asks if you want to edit information for multiple files.
Click on the "Info" tab at the top of the new pop-up window to bring up the information for that particular music file or files. In the field for "Album," delete the existing album title and enter your revised album title, changing any other fields as well if you choose. Click "OK" to save the changes and close the window.
Using Windows Media Player
Open Windows Media Player and click the arrow below the "Library" tab at the top and select "Music" to display the music library. Select the song view mode to show the song files in your library that are listed alphabetically by artist.
Find the song(s) you wish to rename with a different album title and right click on that file in the "Album" column. Hold the "Shift" key and use the up or down arrow to highlight multiple files if you choose. Click "Edit" in the pop-up menu that appears.
The album title will show in an editable field box of the selected file, or of the first selected file if multiple files have been chosen. Delete the existing information and type in your revised album title. Click "Enter" to save the changes. Change any other information for those files in the same manner.
