When replying to messages via Yahoo Mail, the original message is displayed below your own. If you engage in a lengthy back-and-forth discussion with someone via email, this can lead to a large and cluttered file. While it can be useful to include the original messages as references, it is rarely necessary. Yahoo Mail does not offer the option to automatically remove the original messages, but using the "quote original ext" option highlights these for easier manual removal.

Step 1

Sign in to your Yahoo Mail account and click the gear-shaped button on the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 2

Click "Mail Options," then click the "General" tab.

Step 3

Click the check box next to "Quote the text of the original message" in the "Viewing Messages section." This highlights the original message with a blue line which makes it easier for you to remove.

Step 4

Click the "Save" button, then click the "Inbox" tab.

Step 5

Click the message to which you want to reply, and then click the "Reply" button or press "R."

Step 6

Click and drag your mouse cursor over all the text next to the blue line that appears on the left side of the message.

Step 7

Press "Delete" on your keyboard to remove the original message. Type your response and then click "Send." This allows you to reply to the mail without displaying the original message.
